Science is a valued learning area at Beeliar Primary School with students participating from Pre-primary to Year 6. The vision of the Science program is for students to acquire a sense of natural curiosity about the world around them and to develop their use of higher order thinking and inquiry skills. The Science program is aligned with the WA curriculum and aims to develop their depth of knowledge in the physical, biological, chemical and earth and space sciences.
Our specialist Science room allows students to take part in practical experiments and experience scientific concepts and ideas first-hand. With the school-site located alongside native bushland, there are many opportunities to experience the natural world. We also have an outdoor classroom, greenhouse, vegetable garden and chickens so that students can develop their understanding of topics first-hand such as food sources, lifecycles and growth and development.
Science is closely tied to our sustainability program and students participate in a range of programs to help care for the school environment and manage our waste and electricity usage. Our aim is to develop their awareness and appreciation of nature and empower them to help create a more sustainable future.
Every year we also participate in the National Science Week competition. This fantastic event gives students the chance to investigate, create and present a scientific project. Science at Beeliar is a motivating, challenging and fun experience where students enjoy being actively involved in their learning.
